PE Curriculum

PE Curriculum at Estcourt Primary Academy

At Estcourt Primary Academy we believe PE and Sport plays an important role in making our vision statement a reality for every pupil, with the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.
Through PE and Sport, our children are able to develop vital skills and qualities such as resilience, team work, discipline and communication. Learning these skills lead children to have improved concentration, motivation, attitude and also academic achievement.

Through use of our allocated Sports Premium funding, we aim to achieve two main objectives.
1)            to raise the standard of teaching and learning in PE;
2)            to increase participation levels in a variety of extra-curricular sports

Schools will also be required to include details of their provision of PE and sport on their website, alongside details of their broader curriculum, so that parents can compare sports provision between schools, both within and beyond the school day’-(DfE June 2013)

Swimming

For the 2017 to 2018 academic year, there is also a new condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils within their year 6 cohort are meeting the national curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

In our current 2018 Year 6 cohort, 59% are currently meeting the National Curriculum standards and are able to swim a distance of at least 25 metres.
Year 5 and Year 6 have also taken part in sessions held by Kevin Dudding, G.M.B City Convenor on ‘Safety in Water’ and ‘Safety around Water Margins’ to support their learning.
Of the current Year 5 cohort, 68% of children are meeting the National Curriculum requirements for swimming 25 metres.
