SEND
At Estcourt, we firmly believe that all children should reach their full potential.
How we identify SEN at Estcourt Academy.
At Estcourt, we work alongside children and families in order to identify special educational needs. When identifying special educational needs, we consider the legal definition of SEN in the SEND Code of Practice 2014, which states that a child has a learning difficulty or disability if they:
- Have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others the same age; or
- Have a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools.
If concerns are raised, we will observe the child, assess their progress and/or carry out assessments in order to identify their needs and support them.
What our SEN provision looks like at Estcourt.
At Estcourt, we provide equality of education to all children. The support your child receives will be suited to his/her individual needs to ensure he/she makes expected progress in line with his/her peers. This may include classroom adaptations, 1:1 interventions or group interventions to support your child’s area of need. Your child will also likely have a support plan to outline their provision and regular reviews will be made in conjunction with parents.
We work closely with external agencies such as Northcott, Tweendykes, Speech and Language and IPASS. We ensure that children receive the best specialist outreach support on offer and our staff receive high quality SEND training which is specific and bespoke to ensure that we get the provision right for each and every child.
There is a range of provision in place to ensure the needs of our children with SEND are successfully met. We have our very own sensory space. Each classroom has a calm corner to encourage self regulation.
Partnership in Neurodiversity Service (PINS)
We have also been lucky to be selected to trial a new partnership in the area (PINS) this partnership will pull together a number of agencies and schools along with the Hull Parent and Carers Forum.
